“The Chennai Lounge is a restaruant we opened by accident. We came through Southampton to visit Osborne House on the Isle of Wight with the famous story of Queen Victoria who fell in love with the Indian cooking of Abdul Karim. Passing though and looking for a restaurant to eat we noticed the complete lack of authentic Indian cooking in southampton.

Our goal at The Chennai Lounge is to present the classical Indian cooking loved by Queen Victoria, who ate chicken and lentil currys every day for 13 years. The recipes and dishes we’re cooking are passed down from our grandparents, to parents and from us to the people of Southampton.

If Queen Victoria were to visit us today she’d probably order a Kadai Chicken curry, a Vada Lentil curry with a mixed tandoor starter platter. These were the types of dishes she loved.”

Our award winning chefs bring their truly global knowledge to The Chennai Lounge Southampton. Head Chef Kanagaraj Sundarraj was previously one of the Head Chefs on the Royal Caribbean cruise ship in America. Assistant Head Chef Jinaka, who recently joined from Sofitel Dubai The Palm and has helped us to elevate the food at the restaurant even further. Together they are creating unique Indian dishes you won’t find on the menu at any other restaruant in Southampton or Hampshire.
