Last night we were crowned the best new indian restaruant in the UK after being open for less than a year! We picked up the award at the Asian Restaurant Awards ceremony on Tuesday evening at Manchester’s Hilton Hotel.
We were in good company having been shortlisted alongside restaurants in Mayfair, London and as far as Canary Islands and Stockholm in Sweden which the judges visited. A judging panel including a number of noted chefs and former BBC journalist, and editor of Taste London, George Shaw, were given the job of choosing the winners of this year’s accolades from a shortlist of worthy contenders; with categories for every region in the UK.
The awards ceremony took place at the Hilton hotel in Manchester on August 27. The judging panel consisted of “highly experienced” catering profession, representatives of the catering industry and commerce, experts and prominent people in different fields. We’re thrilled to announce that last night we won the best New Indian Restaurant in the UK and have been named in the Top 100 restaruants in the UK by the Asian Restaurant Awards in Manchester! This incredible honour means the world to us, and we couldn’t have done it without our hard working Head chef, his kitchen team and front of house and of course the loyal customers who have written so many good reviews about us to alert the judges. We intend to organise a celebration night soon and we’ll also continue to offer our 3 courses for £25 Awards menu even through the Southampton Boat Show.
Owner Kannan added “We only opened in April which makes this award all the more special. We took a big gamble but followed our hearts to offer a completely different menu and concept to any other indian restaurant in southampton. There’s been hard times when the restaurant has been quiet and you question yourself but kept believing that people will come for good food. Concertntraing on making the dishes the best they can be will work in the long term, and this is the philosophy the Head Chef and myself have been working on. Never compromise, and believe the good times will come. Thank you to all our customers for visiting our restaruant and for continuing to do so. We are ready for a busy month in Southampton with the boat show next month then we go into the Christmas party season”
The Chennai Lounge is open 7 days a week from 12 midday to 12 midnight and tables can be booked online. We are very happy to bring this award back to Southampton!
